United Kingdom
The UK is proud to be a founding member of the Digital Nations, having hosted the inaugural D5 Summit in London in December 2014. More than a decade on, the UK remains committed to the principles of the Digital Nations Charter, and to working with international partners to share experience and exchange best practice.
The Government Digital Service (GDS) is the UK's digital centre of government. Sitting within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, GDS sets the digital strategy for the UK government, builds and operates shared platforms and common tools, including GOV.UK Pay and GOV.UK Notify, and provides guidance that helps teams across government design services around users' needs. GDS also leads the Government Digital and Data profession, drives responsible AI adoption across government, and works in partnership with industry, local government and the NHS.

The UK's Blueprint for Modern Digital Government (2025) sets out a shared vision for public services that are simpler, faster and more joined up, delivering easier lives for citizens, faster growth for businesses, and higher productivity across the public sector. The UK's Roadmap for Modern Digital Government tracks delivery against six priorities: joining up services; harnessing AI for the public good; strengthening digital and data infrastructure; investing in leadership and talent; reforming how government funds and procures technology; and committing to transparency.
This programme of reform has helped establish the UK as one of the world's leading digital governments, ranked 4th in the OECD's 2025 Digital Government Index and 7th in the UN e-Government Survey 2024.
