New Zealand
New Zealand is a founding member of Digital Nations and has a long‑standing commitment to people‑centred, trusted, and efficient digital government.
Our current focus is on system‑level reform, reducing the cost of digital delivery while improving service quality through stronger central leadership, reuse, and coordinated investment.
New Zealand recognises that fragmented, agency‑by‑agency digital delivery has driven unnecessary cost, duplication, and inconsistent user experiences. In response, government is shifting toward a more centralised, coordinated digital system that delivers better value for money and more seamless services for people and businesses.
A central mechanism for reform is the Digital Government Target State, which defines the future design of New Zealand’s digital government system. The Target State provides a clear direction for how agencies design, buy, and deliver digital services in a more consistent and interoperable way.
This approach enables government to “build once, reuse, and continuously improve” reducing long‑term costs while improving service consistency.
More information about New Zealand’s approach to digital government can found here: Digitising Government Programme (DGP).
